Hope to hear from you again, Anastasia Links to Area HappeningsFor those interested in Wilno and Barry's Bay, here are a few interesting sites to check out:
Wilno and its HistoryWilno is known as the first Polish Settlement in Canada, dating back to 1886, and many people come to Wilno to experience first-hand what the Polish people and the Kasubian Polish people are like. The Polish people in the are have tried to keep their roots alive and the Polish culture is very active in Wilno and Barry`s Bay. The village of Wilno has a Polish festival on Polish Day, the first weekend(Saturday) in May. There is local music, Kasubiuan costumes and dancing (always a good fiddle or two). There are great perogies and cabbage rolls, sausages and sauerkraut, herring and borsct and many other treats to enjoy! A close jaunt away is the Shrine Lookout, where visitors can admire the huge hills and vast lakes, partly what brought the first Polish people to the area and a reason why many of the first settlers never left. If you ever get the chance to stop by, Wilno is very welcoming and there will be something there to catch your fancy! The arts community is very active and there are many studio tours and concerts planned around the area. It is hard to travel far without seeing an artist's studio, so there is plenty to fill up the summer days. At night, the cottagers in the area wait in line to partake in the Blues Jam at the Wilno Tavern every Tuesday, due to the incredible talents of the local musicians and the friendly atmosphere of the Wilno Tavern. There are numerous restaurants to dine at, where the food is great and the service is cheery. There are homemade perogies and cabbage rolls served at The Wilno Tavern, not to mention mouth-watering desserts. Down the road in Deacon, the Chinese Restaurant is known far and wide for their chicken balls and other specialties. Overall, there are may different ways to appreciate the Madawaska Highlands, whether you love the natural history of the area or the culture or... Real Estate Inquiries
