Wilno and the surrounding area, including Barry's Bay, Combermere, and Killaloe are known collectively as The Madawaska Highlands. It is a playground for many cottagers and well known for its many clean lakes and rolling hills, with breath-taking views. The Madawaska Highlands has numerous year-round activities to enjoy: boating, swimming, fishing, atv adv entures, skiing, snowshoeing, dogsledding, and snowmobiling, only to name a few. The arts community is very active and there are many studio tours and concerts planned around the area. It is hard to travel far without seeing an artist's studio, so there is plenty to fill up the summer days. At night, the cottagers in the area wait in line to partake in the Blues Jam at the Wilno Tavern every Tuesday, due to the incredible talents of the local musicians and the friendly atmosphere of the Wilno Tavern. There are numerous restaurants to dine at, where the food is great and the service is cheery. There are homemade perogies and cabbage rolls served at The Wilno Tavern, not to mention mouth-watering desserts. Down the road in Deacon, the Chinese Restaurant is known far and wide for their chicken balls and other specialties.
